CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

CANCELLATIONS AFTER 1st WEEK:  Like most schools, I cannot refund or give credit for classes missed during a semester, even if those absences have been frequent. The orientation of the Music Together® program is towards extending the class experience into the child’s life outside of class by means of parent education, and supporting l materials (CD, songbook). Tuition includes these items and consequently is not “wasted” even if classes are missed. In addition, there is an opportunity to make up missed classes. If you cancel any time after the first week and your materials are opened, a minimum attendance fee of $60.00, (which includes my cost of materials) may be charged, if your spot cannot be easily filled. After the third week of the semester, I don’t let new families in, so you are responsible for full payment of your spot. On rare occasions, under very extenuating circumstances, partial credit towards a future semester may be granted at my discretion. It is your responsibility to call me and alert me as soon as you feel you are having difficulty getting to class, and I will work with you as best as I can.

LOOKING AHEAD-FINANCIAL WOES?  When early registration rolls around and you just don’t feel Music Together is in your budget, for whatever reason, but you want to continue- PLEASE don’t feel shy about letting me know. I am happy to take payments over as long a period of time that you need. I am open to any arrangement that works for you! I never want someone to not come who wants to be here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WASH HANDS!  Try to wash your child’s hands before and after class to help keep them and everyone healthy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ILLNESS:  Please be considerate of others if your child has any contagious illness and do not come to class! Please see me if your child appears be sick, but has been cleared by a doctor (i.e.-skin conditions, allergic coughs/reactions, etc) and we can inform the class, to alleviate concerns. Stay home with any fevers, copious nasal drip, sneezing or chronic coughing. Please disinfect yours or your child’s hands with a swab or hand sanitizer if needed! No need to stay home if your otherwise healthy child has leftover cold symptoms, but is clearly fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EATING and DRINKING:  Please observe that there is no eating or drinking during class (thirst and hunger are contagious!) with the exception of children who need nourishment or comfort from breast or bottle. Please offer drinks before or after class and please clean up any food crumbs in reception areas. Thank you
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DON’T SLIP:  Bare feet or non-skid slippers or socks for your child are recommended to avoid slipping.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PACIFIERS:  Pacifiers can limit a child’s participation - vocalizing, experimentation with hand to mouth motions in instrument play etc, but I’m respectful of your judgment if situations arise, where you feel a pacifier is necessary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT’S WRONG WITH W-SITTING?:  The W-position is one of many sitting positions that children move in and out. W-sitting is not recommended for anyone. Many typically developing children do move through this position during play, but excessive use of it during the growing years can lead to possible orthopedic issues. The most effective (and easiest) way to prevent a problem with W-sitting is to prevent it from becoming a habit it the first place. Children can often be taught to assume alternative positions. If a child discovers W-sitting, help him to move to another position, or say, "Fix your legs." Be as consistent as possible. Ask your pediatrician for more info. or ask me for the complete article the above info was excerpted from.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOYS and CUDDLIES:  Please leave toys and animals at home to make it easy on yourself, your child and especially other families whose child may become fixated on your child’s toy! I understand that occasionally, there are needs that warrant a comfort object in class. Please do the best you can with this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIBLINGS:  Siblings who are off from school may come to music class and there is never a charge. I do expect certain behavior from older visiting siblings (ages 4 and up). Please make sure they understand before they come that we need good behavior and expectations will be different for them than for their sibling and all the other younger children. They should not add disruptive energy to the class. Your help with this is essential.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUESTS:  Spouses, partners, siblings, and grandparents are not considered guests! You don’t need to call me! Other out of town visitors (cousins, friends, etc) staying with you are welcome on occasion but you must call first. There is a charge of $8.00 per child. (no charge for children under 10 months old).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
