CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES                           Sing With B Music

MAKING UP MISSED CLASSES and SNOW CLOSINGS: I offer a makeup week at the end of a semester (as a courtesy) to make up one missed class. You are free to make up as many missed classes as your schedule allows. Any that you are not able to make up, will have to be forfeited and no refunds or credits will be granted. In the event of a snow cancellation, I will offer one class during the same time frame as your regular class, on a different day and/or a weekend.. If you are not able to make the rescheduled snow makeup, I will be unable to offer refunds or credits. You are welcome to come to any other class as your snow makeup, if you are not able to attend the scheduled makeup.

FINANCIAL WOES?  When early registration rolls around and you just don’t feel Music Together® is in your budget, for whatever reason, but you want to continue- PLEASE don’t feel shy about letting me know. I am happy to take payments over as long a period of time that you need. I am open to any arrangement that works for you! There is also usually a little scholarship $. I never want someone to not come who wants to be here.

WASH HANDS!  Try to wash your child’s hands before and after class to help keep them and everyone healthy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ILLNESS:  Please be considerate of others if your child has any contagious illness and do not come to class! Please see me if your child appears be sick, but has been cleared by a doctor (i.e.-skin conditions, allergic coughs/reactions, etc) and we can inform the class, to alleviate concerns. Stay home with any fevers, copious nasal drip, sneezing or chronic coughing. Please disinfect yours or your child’s hands with a swab or hand sanitizer if needed! No need to stay home if your otherwise healthy child has leftover cold symptoms, but is clearly fine.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EATING and DRINKING:  Please observe that there is no eating or drinking during class (thirst and hunger are contagious!) with the exception of children who need nourishment or comfort from breast or bottle. Please offer drinks before or after class and please clean up any food crumbs in reception areas. Thank you

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DON’T SLIP:  Bare feet or non-skid slippers or socks for your child are recommended to avoid slipping.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PACIFIERS:  Pacifiers can limit a child’s participation - vocalizing, experimentation with hand to mouth motions in instrument play etc, but I’m respectful of your judgment if situations arise, where you feel a pacifier is necessary.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT’S WRONG WITH W-SITTING?  The W-position is one of many sitting positions that children move in and out. W-sitting is not recommended for anyone. Many typically developing children do move through this position during play, but excessive use of it during the growing years can lead to possible orthopedic issues. The most effective (and easiest) way to prevent a problem with W-sitting is to prevent it from becoming a habit it the first place. Children can often be taught to assume alternative positions. If a child is W-sitting, help him to move to another position, or say, "Fix your legs." Be as consistent as possible. Ask your pediatrician or ask me for an article with more information.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOYS and CUDDLIES:  Please leave toys & animals at home to make it easy on yourself, your child and other families whose child may become fixated on your child’s toy. I understand occasionally, there are needs that warrant a comfort object in class. Please do the best you can with this.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIBLINGS:  Siblings who are off from school may come to music class and there is never a charge. I do expect certain behavior from older visiting siblings (ages 4 and up). Please make sure they understand before they come that we need good behavior and expectations will be different for them than for their sibling and all the other younger children. Your help with this is essential.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUESTS:  Spouses, partners, siblings, and grandparents are not considered guests and can visit any time without letting me know. Out of town visitors are welcome, but please call first. There is charge of $10 for visiting children who are >10 months. If you are helping a friend (out of necessity) & cannot change your current class, there is no charge. Friends can try a class anytime at NO CHARGE and register if it is within the first three weeks of a semester. ou

LOANING LIBRARY  Just ask if you would like to borrow the DVD or any of the books.

While on your journey raising up your little one - expect the unexpected!  From my 33 years of parenting, I came to know that just when I/we were at the “end of our rope” with one of our kids, that the developmental winds of change were often shifting and there was usually a period of calmer, equilibrium to follow, before the next “storm.”  I have a few resources to help you along the way.

- Check out the books (or find snippets on the web) by Louise Bates Ames,  “Your One Year Old”, “Your Two Year Old” etc.  She uses research from the Gesell Institute of Child Development.  You may get some real insights, as if they’re describing your very own child on those pages!  These are available at some local libraries and also I have the first 4 (Your One, Two, Three and Four Year Old)

- There is a wonderful behavioral technique called “1-2-3 Magic” that can be incredibly effective.  We used it very successfully with our kids. It is available at some local libraries in DVD or book form and I also own (and loan!) it.

- Another favorite of mine is “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen” and it is in my loaning library. Just ask!

INSTRUMENTS FOR SALE: I usually have some of the instruments we use in class available for sale at class. There is a self-serve basket. Prices on payment envelope include 7% RI Sales Tax. I will send you a picture brochure at your request.

CANCELLING YOUR ENROLLMENT after the START of  the SEMESTER: Like most schools, I cannot refund or give credit for classes missed during a semester, even if those absences have been frequent. The orientation of the Music Together program is towards extending the class experience into the child’s life outside of class by means of parent education, and supporting materials (CD, song downloads, songbook). Tuition includes these items and consequently is not “wasted” even if classes are missed. In addition, there is an opportunity to make up missed classes. If you cancel any time after the first week and your materials are opened, a minimum attendance fee of $70.00, (which includes my cost of materials and two classes) will be charged, if your spot cannot be easily filled. After the third week of the semester, I don’t let new families in, so you are responsible for full payment of your spot. On rare occasions, under certain circumstances, partial credit towards a future semester may be granted.. It is your responsibility to call me and alert me as soon as you feel you are having difficulty getting to class, and I will work with you as best as I can.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES:  I am available to provide musical entertainment at your child's next birthday. Please see Birthday Party Link on  my website for more details and make sure you hold your date in advance!
